Highland Hills Middle School Afternoon Announcement for Tuesday, September 6, 2022

 

Here are the bus routes that are not running for Tuesday, Sept. 6th:

 

Highland Hills Middle School

Bus #18-8, Woody Feck ~ Route #32, Slot #20

 

Bus #17-19 ~ Route #22, Slot #35

 

Bus #17-15, Missy Kochert ~ Route #24, Slot #12

 

 

Parents, can you believe that we are halfway through the grading period.  Please take a moment to log into PowerSchool to see your student’s progress so far.  Reach out to their teacher if you have any questions about their grades.  Also, take a look at their attendance.  Students’ attendance is part of our Federal Accountabilty Rating.  Thank you for getting them to school everyday or calling our attendance line to report the absence!  Unless students are ill, it’s important for them to be at school everyday! 

 

 

 

The new car rider procedures started TODAY!  Thank you for your patience!

A few reminders:

  • You MUST obey the 3-way stop in the back where the two lines split.  We don’t want any fender benders. 

  • Don’t release students from your vehicle until 8:40am in both the upper and lower car rider lines. This is for their safety. 

  • If you arrive at HHMS at 9:00, you need to use the front entrance and walk your student in for a Tardy pass. (The back doors will be locked for safety reasons)

Car Rider Pick-up and Drop Off Update

Our Upper Car Rider Line will Open Tuesday, September 6th

 

We will NO LONGER use the front entrance for Car Riders.  This is for Buses and Staff Parking only.  

 

All car riders dropping off or picking up students will enter the Indian Creek Lane entrance (NOT our main entrance). Once you pass the tennis courts, you will use:

  • The right-hand lane to enter the Upper Car Rider Circle (5th Grade ONLY)

  • The left-hand lane to use the Lower Car Rider Circle (for Grades 6th-8th)

  • If you are dropping off or picking up a 5th Grade student along with students that are in other grades, you will use the Lower Car Rider Circle for all of the students. The Upper Circle is if you ONLY have 5th Grade at this time. 

  • There will be a 3-Way Stop at the intersection for the two Car Rider Lanes. 

  • Both lanes will exit using the side parking lot (orange below) 

  • Cars attempting to enter the front entrance will be directed to the Indian Creek Lane for drop off.  We appreciate your cooperation.

  • Cars may use the front entrance after 9am when students are considered Tardy.  

 

 

 

PTO Spirit Night @ The Exchange on Monday, September 12th and Berry Twist on Tuesday, September 27th! 

 

Looking ahead – Wednesday, September 21st will be an Early Release Day.  Students will dismiss @ 1:45pm.  Buses will arrive home in the afternoon 2 hours earlier. 

 

 

  • Fall Scholastic Book Fair will be the week of September 26 – 30th.  Schedule will come later.  There will be a Counselor’s Parent Night (more info will come) on Wednesday, September 28th from 6:00 – 6:45pm and then the book fair will be open to HHMS families from 6:45 – 8:00pm. 

 

  • Fall Intersession is Oct. 3rd – 7th (Mon – Fri) 

    • The hours have slightly changed in an effort to better accommodate transportation.  

    • The Middle School student day is 9:00am – 12:00pm.

    • Student registration will open shortly after Labor Day

  • 7th/8th Boys HOME Soccer match canceled tonight 

 

  • Updates for B. Soccer v. Silver Creek that was scheduled for Wed, Sept. 7th:

Time: 5:30 for 5th/6th with 7th/8th grade to follow

Clubs (We have a club bulletin board located in the Commons near the Cafe’)

 

 

 

  • Intramurals start this week.  Intramurals is for any student who is interested in playing different sports.  Our 7th and 8th graders meet on Thursday mornings from 7:30 – 8:35AM. Our 5th and 6th graders are on Friday mornings from 7:30 to 8:35AM.  Students can enter the gym through door 28.  This week we are playing kickball.  If you have any questions, please see Ms. Fox or Mr. Michell. The first semester schedule is posted on the club board. 

 

 

 

  • Club Football ~ FC White beat Jeffersonville Gray over the weekend, 22-20. Great game by all players with special mention to Mason Roberts with over 70 yards passing, Ethan Wright with 2 rushing TDs and Jett Farley with another rushing score. Great defensive plays by Cam Hutslar, Hunter Hiatt, Jude Dunn, and Nicholas Leathers.

 

  • Sudoku club – We are looking for students interested in joining a Sudoku club.  We will start in October and meet on Thursdays after school until 5:00.  Anyone interested should email Mrs. Jenkins (kjenkins@nafcs.org) for more information.

 

  • Journalism Club will begin meeting on Wednesday, September 7, 2022.   We will meet weekly in room A185 from 4-5pm.    This is open to all 5-8 grade students and we will be learning the basics of journalism while attending events, conducting interviews and taking pictures to put in the publication we will produce.     If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Taggart at staggart@nafcs.org.  

 

 

 

 

 

  • Chess club will begin on Tuesday, September 6.  It will be on Tuesdays from after school until 5:00.  We will meet in Mrs. Schroeder’s room (A244).  No experience required.  See Mrs. Milliner amilliner@nafcs.org or Mrs. Schroeder jschroeder@nafcs.org if you have any questions. 

 

 

  • American Sign Language (ASL) Club will continue to meet in the Safety Net Room (across from the cafe’) every other Tuesday from 8:15am until the bell rings with the first meeting being on Tuesday, September 13th.

  • Campus Life for 5-8th grades meets on every Wednesday after school until 5:00pm in the cafeteria. Campus Life is a positive place where students can have fun with friends, talk about relevant issues, and be heard without judgment.   • Art Club ~ After school until 5:00pm in A251, the second floor science lab.

    • A schedule for the meetings has been posted to the Google Classroom.

  • Student Council Meetings with Ameilla Dusch and Amy Hucker ~ Room A336 ~  after school until 4:30.  This is the student council group that was picked last spring.

  • Picture retakes will be on Tuesday, October 25th in the Library 

 

  • Car Rider Reminder – please pull you vehicle all the way up (bumper to bumper) so that we can get as many cars in as possible when loading and unloading.

  • Bus ID Pass: There is a $2.00 charge for any reprints of the Z-Pass  

 

  • Students, just a reminder that you should be scanning your bus pass as you get on and off of your bus.  This is helpful in an emergency situation for us to know who is on the bus.  It is NOT required to have a bus pass at this time.  Please be patient with us as we need to get passes out to our new students.  Thank you
