Highland Hills Middle School Afternoon Announcement for Tuesday, August 31, 2021

 

Students attending athletic events ~ We would like all students attending athletic events to have an adult present at games.  Students should not be dropped off or travel to the game on their own.  For safety and security reasons, we are asking that all students attend with an adult.  We appreciate your support and cooperation.  If you have any questions, please contact our office and we will be happy to assist you.

At the end of each month, we box up our lost and found items.  Please be sure to check this area located right inside the cafeteria, especially if you eat lunch in the Commons and may not walk by this area each day.  We will box up the items at the end of the week.

Covid Information:

• We have had additional positive cases today.  Some did not need contact tracing due to the exposure dates for the student, was NOT at school.  We are making phone calls as quickly as we can once we get the contact tracing information for the ones that need it.  We appreciate your kindness when we talk to you on the phone and understand the inconvenience that it causes. We hope everyone is staying healthy & safe.

 

• If your student is in quarantine, please remind them to get on Google Classroom to work asynchronously so they do not get behind on their classwork.  Note:  If your student is vaccinated and is a close contact, they will NOT have to quarantine.

 

• The Indiana Department of Health shared recently that we are no longer able to accept the antibody tests for students to return early.  We are sorry for this inconvenience that it may have caused for some. Thanks for keeping our schools from going virtual.

 

• If any household members have a pending covid test, please contact our school nurse, Heather Murray at 812.542.8501 or via email: hmurray@nafcs.org You may also email Mrs. Ivey @ wivey@nafcs.org.

 

• Masks are mandated INSIDE the school building.  Students riding to/from school on a bus must wear a mask due to the federal mandate.  Thank you for your support and cooperation.  We want to keep everyone safe.

 

• Labor Day/No School – Monday, September 6

Athletics Announcements (We also have an athletic bulletin board located in the Commons near the pool)

• The Cross Country teams competed against some of the best teams in Indiana and Kentucky over weekend at the St.X Tiger Run Invitational. Our Boys came in 7th place and our Girls came in 2nd!

Athletic Events for this evening:

• Tennis – cancelled per Coach Weimer

• Football – practice as normal, if raining in the gym

• 7/8 Soccer match at 7:30 at HHMS has been CANCELED

• 5/6 Soccer practice CANCELED

• Girls Soccer practice CANCELED

• Cross Country as scheduled, may run inside if raining

2021-2022 HHMS Open Gym Basketball Schedule

 

Tryouts for the school teams will not occur until we return from Fall Break.

 

• 5th & 6th Grade Boys Basketball ~ There will be an open gym for boys basketball every Monday for 5th and 6th graders from 5:30-7:00. Starts 8/30 and runs through until fall break. Contact Mr. Miller for any questions.

• 5th & 6th Grade Girls Basketball ~ There will also be an open gym for girls basketball every Tuesday for 5th & 6th Grade from 5:30-7:00.  Starts 8/31 and runs through fall break. Contact Mr. Miller for any questions.

• 6th Grade Girls Basketball ~ Open Gym will be on Fridays after school until 5:30pm beginning 9-10-21 until Fall Break. Coach Jenks will lead.

• ​​7th Grade Boys Basketball Open gym – 7th grade boys: Coach Reed will lead

• 8th Grade Boys Basketball ~  will have an “Open Gym” from 5:30 – 7:00pm on Thursdays until Fall Break. Coach Metz will lead

• 7th & 8th Grade Girls Basketball ~ will have an “Open Gym” from 5:30 – 7:00pm on Mondays (excluding Labor Day).

Clubs (We have a club bulletin board located in the Commons near the Cafe’)

• Applications are now available for the Robotics Club. You can find them in the case outside of the office. There is limited space, and applications are due by the end of the day this Friday, so be sure to pick one up soon! You can give completed forms to Mrs. Pickering or Mrs. Taylor or place your form in one of their mailboxes.

• Fishing Club – There will be a meeting at FC today at 6pm.

• Chess Club meets every Monday after school until 5pm.  Everyone is welcome to attend, no experience required.  The club will meet in Mrs. Milliner’s room (A102).

• Campus Life for 5-8th grades will meet every Friday after school until 5:00pm in the cafeteria. Campus Life is a positive place where students can have fun with friends, talk about relevant issues, and be heard without judgment. It’s a place where you will be challenged to make good decisions and lead in a positive way here at HHMS.

 

Good luck to any of our Jaguars that perform or play this evening.

• Important Dates:

  • Early Dismissal for Students/Staff Professional Development – Wednesday, September 22 (Students dismiss at 1:45pm)

  • Fall Break – October 4 – 15 (We will have intercession.  More information will come)

• October 26 ~ Picture Retakes

  • Parents will be able to order pictures online this year.  You will get a specific email with your student’s picture on it to place orders.  (5th Grade – Use 1st Period Teacher; 6th Grade – Use your 2nd Period Teacher; 7th/8th – Use your 7th Period Teacher)

If a parent had an account last year, that same account should be active but they may have to click on “forgot password” link if they cannot recall.  We have set up new accounts for all new students’ parents as well.  Please see the following letter that was sent out earlier today with the Quick Reference Guide
