Highland Hills Middle School Afternoon Announcement for Tuesday, August 24, 2021

Covid Information:

• If your student is in quarantine, please remind them to get on Google Classroom to work asynchronously so they do not get behind on their classwork.  Note:  If your student is vaccinated and is a close contact, they will NOT have to quarantine.

• The Indiana Department of Health shared recently that we are no longer able to accept the antibody tests for students to return early.  We are sorry for this inconvenience that it may have caused for some. Thanks for all of your continued support to try to keep our schools from going virtual.

• If any household members have a pending covid test, please do NOT send your student to school. Contact the attendance clerk to let them know.

• Masks are mandated INSIDE the school building.  Students riding to/from school on a bus must wear a mask due to the federal mandate.  Thank you for your support and cooperation.  We want to keep everyone safe.

Athletics Announcements (We also have an athletic bulletin board located in the Commons near the pool)

• Athletic Changes for today!

  • ​​Tennis vs Silver Creek- cancelled/no practice

  • Football – film day in the cafeteria

  • 5/6 Boys Soccer – rescheduled for 7pm

  • 7/8 Boys Soccer – after school in the gym, no cleats

  • Girls Soccer – no practice scheduled

  • Cross Country – boys run inside

  • Cross Country –  girls run inside

  • Dazzlers – canceled/no practice

• Cheer Tryouts for any 5th graders and new HHMS students will be 4:00 – 5:30pm on Thursday, August 26th and Friday, August 27th.  The team will be announced on Friday at 5:30pm and a parent meeting will be Wednesday, September 1st, at 6:30pm.

• HHMS Girls Soccer beat Hazelwood/Scribner last night 7-1. Great effort by the entire team! Caroline Kemp led the way with 4 goals, Claire Tripure made 2 more, and Cassie Oliver scored 1. Nice job, ladies!

• Highland Hills won their football season opener last night by defeating Silver Creek 32-14 in the 8th grade game…..and 6-0 in the 7th grade game.  Colton Philpott and Juliano Foster were awarded the John Henry this week for their exemplary hard work and positive leadership.  Great job!

• 5th/6th Grade Boys Basketball ~ There will be an open gym for boys basketball every Monday for 5th and 6th graders from 5:30-7:00. Starts 8/30 and runs through until fall break. Contact Mr. Miller for any questions.

• 5th/6th Grade Girls Basketball ~ There will also be an open gym for girls basketball every Tuesday for 5th and 6th graders from 5:30-7:00.  Starts 8/31 and runs through fall break. Contact Mr. Miller for any questions.

• 8th grade Boys Basketball ~  will have an “Open Gym” from 5:30 – 7:00pm on Thursdays until Fall Break.

Clubs (We have a club bulletin board located in the Commons near the Cafe’)

• Chess Club will be starting next Monday, August 30.  Everyone is welcome to attend, no experience required.  The club will meet in Mrs. Milliner’s room (A102) from after school until 5:00 every Monday.

• Campus Life for 5-8th grades will begin Friday, August 20 and meet every Friday after school until 5:00pm in the cafeteria. Campus Life is a positive place where students can have fun with friends, talk about relevant issues, and be heard without judgment. It’s a place where you will be challenged to make good decisions and lead in a positive way here at HHMS.

OTHER Announcements

• Important Dates:

  • Labor Day/No School – Monday, September 6

  • Early Dismissal for Students/Staff Professional Development – Wednesday, September 22 (Students dismiss at 1:45pm)

  • Fall Break – October 4 – 15 (We will have intercession.  More information will come)

• October 26 ~ Picture Retakes

  • Parents will be able to order pictures online this year.  You will get a specific email with your student’s picture on it to place orders.  (5th Grade – Use 1st Period Teacher; 6th Grade – Use your 2nd Period Teacher; 7th/8th – Use your 7th Period Teacher)

• There are a limited number of 2020-21 yearbooks available for purchase. They can be purchased from Ms. Benning’s Room, which is Room A-253. Please bring $40 exact change or a check made out to HHMS.
