Highland Hills Afternoon Announcement for Wednesday, April 14, 2021

APRIL is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Congratulations to our HHMS Orchestra talented young musicians and the music staff for the outstanding musical accomplishments by earning the Indiana State School Music Association All-Music Award for the 2020-21 school year.

They will receive a special banner to display in their recognition.

A message from Mrs. Durham in the library~ If you’re needing a good book to read during ILEARN, please stop by the library this week.  The last day to check out books will be Friday, April 30th.  All books are due back on/or before May 14th.  If you have any late fees, please make sure that you stop in the library to make a payment.  All fees will be carried over to the next school year.  If you have misplaced your library book, you will need to submit the replacement fee.  If you need to know the cost, please stop in the library or email Mrs. Durham at rdurham@nafcs.org

 

Here is important information about Highland Hills ILEARN Testing:

Today ~ ILEARN Practice Test for Social Studies (5th Gr) & Science (6th Gr) on April 14 in their SS or Science Block.  Virtual students will take it when they come in the following week to take the real test.  If you were absent, you will take the make-ups with your counselor later this week.

 

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO CHARGE YOUR CHROMEBOOK TONIGHT SO THERE IS A FULL BATTERY FOR TESTING TOMORROW! The 8th Grade students will be provided a Chromebook during ILEARN testing at school.

ILEARN Assessment window – April 19 – April 27 ~ In-person students testing from 9am – 11am block; All students will run their regular schedule using the 2-Hour Delay schedule.

  • In-person students ~  will test at school starting at 9am in their 1st period classes (6th grade in their 2nd period homeroom classes)

  • Make-ups ~ Our counselors will help with make-ups if a student is not able to test at their normal time.

  • Virtual students that are testing from 9am – 11am ~  will be picked up at 11am in the car rider line.  Students will exit Door 10.

  • All Virtual students ~ will not log on until 11am for their regular classes due to the in-person students taking the ILEARN.

 

  • Attendance ~ for Virtual students will start @ 11am on 4/13

  • Lunches ~  will follow the 2-Hour Delay Schedule for April 19 – 27:

    11:30 – 12:00 6th Gr

    12:13 – 12:43 8th Gr

    12:51 – 1:21 7th Gr

    1:30 – 2:00 5th Gr

 

I want to personally thank all of our parents for their support this year.  The Indiana Department of Education made the decision for us to continue with the ILEARN Assessment.  We truly appreciate you making every effort to have your students present at school or allow your virtual student to come into the building so that we can complete this assessment.  This is WHY we are a 4-Star School!  You are a HUGE reason!

ATHLETICS Announcements (We also have an athletic bulletin board located in the Commons near the pool)

 

  • Track ~ Last night’s track meet was with Parkview Middle School and both boys and girls teams did very well.  The official results will be posted as soon as we have them from Parkview.

 

  • Girls Tennis ~ 5:30pm Match with Parkview MS @ Jeffersonville High School (change of location) From Coach Stillwell: Scheduled matches are for gold and goldex only. No green team practice on away match days. Girls defeated River valley 5-0 yesterday. Winning players were Katherine Fancher, Allyson Duckworth, Mariana Ordaz, Hope Periago, Ava Krutzer, Katherine Langdon, and Addie Michell

 

  • HHMS SOFTBALL ~ The Gold Team hosted Christian Academy on Monday, winning 21-2. Adeline Shultz led things off in the circle, allowing 2 runs on one hit, striking out 5 and walking zero. Nora Koehler pitched late in the game, allowing 1 hit, striking out 3 and walking zero. On the offensive side, Olive Kinder hit a homerun, while Elise Gilbert hit a triple. Macy Helms, Elise Gilbert, Nora Koehler, Olive Kinder and Adeline Shultz each contributed 2 RBI’s. The Gold team is back on the field, April 21st at 6pm, to take on Silver Creek, at home.

 

  • Girls Basketball Workouts on Wednesdays from 4:00 – 5:30pm @ HHMS for Grades 5-8 with Coach Randy Gianfagna

Clubs (We also have a club bulletin board located in the Commons near the Cafe’)

  • Campus Life: for 7th & 8th graders will meet on Tuesday after school until 5:00pm in room C-130.  5th & 6th graders will meet on Friday after school until 5:00pm in the cafeteria. (Note the ending time changed)

  • Intramurals (Enter Door 28) ~ Wiffleball this week

    • 7th and 8th grade  ~ Thursday at 7:30am in the gym.

    • 5th and 6th grade  ~ Friday at 7:30am in the gym.

  • Floyd County Swim Club – Registration for the Floyd County Hurricanes is now open for the 2021 summer swim season. Visit our website floydcountyhurricanes.com to register now.  We practice at Hazelwood Middle School.  Cost for the 1st swimmer is $115.00, $90.00 for each additional swimmer, & $90.00 for club swimmers.  Deadline to register is May 1st to avoid late registration fees.  Email floydcountyhurricanes@gmail.com for additional information.

OTHER Announcements

  • Important Dates:

    • SchoolHouse Rock, Jr. – April 23 & 24 @ 7pm

  • Last Student Day – Thursday, May 27

  • Free Tutoring ~ Highland Hills will be offering after-school tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45 – 5:15pm in the areas of Math and English/Language Arts.  This will be free for our students but you MUST let us know by the day before for participation so that we are prepared for you.  Students will need to be picked up promptly by 5:15pm at Door 1.  We will need to know the student’s name, grade, area of difficulty, and parent name and contact for emergency.  This time can be used to get help with missing assignments, preparation for upcoming tests, or specific concepts in the area of mathematics, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing.  The following teachers will be giving their services.  Please contact them by emailing them with the above information.  Students will report to the Cafeteria after dismissal with all of their materials.

    • Incident-IQ Help Desk system ~ Visit https://nafcs.incidentiq.com/ -if prompted, enter your school Google login information or call  812-542-4700 and use option 1, on school days between 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM.  Please leave a message with your name, school and overview of the issue you are experiencing.  Please do not call your school building directly and ask for tech support.

  • Technology issues for In-Person (only if you are at school today)

If the student is in-person at HHMS, have one of their teachers contact Lanny Howard to set up a time to be seen that school day.  There are also paper copies of request forms to explain the situation that are available outside his office.
