Highland Hills Middle School Afternoon Announcement for Tuesday, February 1, 2022

  • Parent Reminders ~ Things that are helpful:

    • Call or send in a note to the office for early dismissals to expedite the process.

    • Having your student have all of their belongings ready to go to exit the vehicle upon arrival to the car rider line. (Please have them get out anywhere by the sidewalk)

    • Do NOT go around buses or other vehicles that are dropping off students.

    • For safety, Students should NEVER walk in the parking lot on their own.  An adult must walk with them.

  • As of 1/31/22 – We can now allow our students age 12-17 to NOT have to quarantine if they do not have their booster.  They still need to be at least 2 weeks post their initial series, but they no longer need a booster to be considered up to date.  As long as they have their 2 doses and remain asymptomatic, they do not have to quarantine if they are considered to be a close contact.

  • If your student is in quarantine, please remind them to get on Google Classroom to work asynchronously so they do not get behind on their classwork.

  • If any household members have a pending covid test, please contact our school nurse, Heather Murray at 812.542.8501 or via email: hmurray@nafcs.org You may also email Mrs. Ivey @ wivey@nafcs.org.

 

  • The next PTO meeting will be 4:00pm on Monday, February 7th in the library. We’d love to have you there!

 

 

Athletics Announcements (We also have an athletic bulletin board located in the Commons near the pool)

 

 

  • The 7th Grade Girls basketball team opened the Clark-Floyd County tournament by beating Park View 43-11. The team is now in the final four and will play at home Wednesday at 6. The girls had outstanding performances from Riley Roberts, Cooper Stiefvater, and Kara Walter.

  • Last night our 8th grade boys basketball traveled to Charlestown and walked away with an impressive win 43 – 34.  Another strong team effort and impressive defense, especially from Jude Vetter. Scorers were Lance Metz 12 points, Sebastian Robertson 11 points, Carter McQuigg 5 points, Jude Vetter 5 points, Tate Smith 4 points, Jacob Stewart 4 points, and Matt Polk 2 points.  Tonight’s game vs Corydon has been moved to Wednesday night and will be at Corydon.  This will be our last regular season game and the team would love some fan support if you’re able to make the travel.  Thank you to our fans thus far for the huge support!

  • The 7th grade boys’ basketball team defeated Charlestown last night 52-18.  It was a great team win with all players contributing.  Bryson Cook, Jaxon Stone, Eli Robbeloth, and Campbell Turnage dominated in the rebounding category.  Grant Curry and Blake Wisman had their best overall games of the season.  Luke Jacobi and Max Watson did a nice job on defense forcing several turnovers.  Leading Scorers:  Landon Reed with 14, Campbell Turnage with 7, Jaxon Stone with 6, and Grant Curry with 5.  Next game is tomorrow night against Corydon at 6:00.

  • The 6th grade boys basketball team beat Charlestown last night 58-25.  Top performers were Blake Shuler-Scanlon (12 Points), Ethan Noble (8 points), Noah Baker (8 points), Luke Ellis (6 points), & Clayton Monroe (6 points).  Congratulations to everyone on a complete team win on both ends of the floor.

 

 

Tryout info for swimming and diving.  The dates/times are:

Tryouts:

5th/6th Grade Students: Tuesday February 8, 4:00 – 5:00

7th/8th Grade Students: Wednesday February 9, 4:00 – 5:00

 

 

Track conditioning will begin on the following date/times;

  • Girls begin on 2-28-22,  M-Th after school until 5pm.  Be prepared to run outside, run indoors if the weather is too bad.  Be prepared to run outside, run indoors if the weather is too bad.

  • Boys begin on 2-28-22,  M-Th 5pm-6pm, must go home and return to HHMS, Cannot stay after school without a parent/guardian. Be prepared to run outside, run indoors if the weather is too bad.

  • Have you ever been interested in learning Sign Language?  Come join the Sign Language club! Our 1st meeting will be Tuesday, February 8th at 8:15 am in the Safety Net room. Everyone is welcome!

  • HHMS Math Homework Help 7/8th grade  21-22

Who:   7th and 8th grade students

When:  Tuesday and Thursday 3:45-4:45pm

Where: A222 ( Mrs. Boling’s room)

Homework help – If you have math questions, come get them answered –  It’s free!To Sign up-

  • Sign up list will be located in the front office starting on the Friday before.

    • Post- Tuesday/Thursday list for the week the Friday morning before.

  • Number of spots is limited each week

    • Students should remove their name from the list if they find that they can’t attend. *Students waiting to get in should continue checking the list

IN Classroom –

  • Students MUST bring an assignment or specific questions to work on.

  • Teachers will not be providing material/worksheets/study material, etc.

  • Students will be asked to call parents to pick them up if they do not have material to practice or work on. (See math teacher or go online to find extra practice materials as needed.)

NOTE:  This is NOT one-on-one tutoring.   If you are looking for an individual tutor, you can contact your counselor or math teacher for suggestions.
