Highland Hills Middle School Afternoon Announcement for Tuesday, December 14, 2021

  • Congratulations to our 7th grade Junior Jaguar Bells and our 8th Grade Jaguar Bells for being chosen as featured ensembles in the Handbell Musicians of America Ring-A-Thon going on today from 4-10 p.m.    Between 6:30 and 7:00 this evening video footage of their last concert will be shown on the Youtube live stream for the National Organizations annual Ring-A-Thon.    We are so proud of our handbell kids for their outstanding musicianship.   Congratulations on this much deserved honor.

  • PTO Spirit Nights:

Dec 15: Bearnos (all 3 SI Locations)

Bearnos Pizza–Carryout or Dine In 20% of all purchases goes back to HHMS PTO. Must mention fundraiser to get credit. All 3 Locations for all day.

  • Important Dates:

    • Winter Break – December 18 – January 2nd

    • Teacher return  – Monday, January 3rd

    • Students return – Tuesday, January 4th

 

  • This is your last week to buy the yearbook at the special price of $30! Once we return from Winter Break, the price will be $40. This year you can make your yearbook extra special by purchasing an ad. All the information you need is on www.yearbookforever.com!

 

  • The next PTO meeting will be 4:00pm on Monday, January 10th in the library. We’d love to have you there!

 

 

Athletics Announcements (We also have an athletic bulletin board located in the Commons near the pool)

 

  • The 7th Grade Girls defeated Salem 46-7 to improve their record to 9-1. The Jaguars were led by Maya Brogan, Jadyn Drury, Hudson Holt, Riley Roberts, and Carleigh Schlise.

  • The 8th grade girls basketball team defeated Salem on Monday by a score of 47-7. The team combined to hit a total of eight 3 pointers. Addy Ware led the outside shooting with three made 3 point shots.  It was also a great team effort of defense as Salem was held to one made field goal and only 5 made free throws.

  • 5th grade boys basketball practice will be:

    • Tuesday, December 14th from 7:00 to 8:30AM

    • Friday,  December 17th after school from 4:00 to 5:30PM.

 

  • 6th Grade Boys Basketball Tryouts

    • Athletes must have a physical on file to try out.

    • 4:00 – 5:30pm on Wednesday, December 15

    • 4:00 – 5:30pm on Thursday, December 16

 

Clubs (We have a club bulletin board located in the Commons near the Cafe’)

 

  • Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Club in Library from 3:45 – 4:45pm (Strause, Boehnlein, C. Hynes)

  • Intramurals is for any student who is interested in playing sports before the school day begins.  We play a different sport every week.  Drop off for intramurals is door 28.   If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Fox.

    • 7th and 8th grade is on Thursdays from 7:30 – 8:30 am.

    • 5th and 6th grade is on Fridays from 7:30 – 8:30am.

  • Dungeons and Dragons ~ If you play Dungeons and Dragons or would like to learn how to play.  You are welcome to come to the newly formed Dungeons and Dragons club.  We will meet on Thursdays until 5:00 in the cafe’.

 

  • Robotics Club Schedule (For Existing Members Grade 5-8 Only) in Room C133

  • Due to many requests, Ms. Taylor and Ms. Pickering are going to work to find funding for one more competition. We aren’t sure if any are open, but we are going to try our best! Because of this, we are canceling our Tuesday practice where we were going to take apart our robots. We are going to take January off, then reach out to our families with a new schedule if funding and a competition are both found.

  • Floyd County is currently in the “Orange” with Covid restrictions.

  • Masks are MANDATORY at NAFC schools.

  • Send students to school with a mask.

  • Visitors at all events (athletics and music events) need to be masked up.

  • Players on the court will be able to remove masks while playing. While on the sideline, they should be masked up.

  • Band students will be able to remove masks while playing instruments.

  • Field Trips are postponed/canceled at this time.

  • Contact Tracing will be done within 3 feet for 15 or more minutes.

  • Vaccinated students will not be quarantined if in close contact.  Please send in documentation to our health office if you haven’t already done so.

  • There continues to be a Federal Transportation Mask Mandate in effect for buses.

  • If your student is in quarantine, please remind them to get on Google Classroom to work asynchronously so they do not get behind on their classwork.
