Highland Hills Middle School Afternoon Announcement for Monday, September 27, 2021

Fall Break – October 4 – 15 (Fall Intercession will be from Oct. 4 – 8th)

Athletics Announcements (We also have an athletic bulletin board located in the Commons near the pool)

 

  • Highland Hills Tennis won the Clark/Floyd Tournament this weekend! Christian Sedwick won the #1 singles, Ryan Miller and Lance Metz won the #1 doubles, Tyler Hanke and Hudson Smith were runner up in the #2 Doubles, Luke Holland got 3rd in the #3 singles, and Joel Irwin got 3rd in the #2 singles.  Congratulations to the team on a great season!

 

  • FC Green Football Team defeated New Albany 20-8 to remain undefeated. Jax Robinson, Eli Banet, and Asa Swearingen put points on the scoreboard this weekend; but they couldn’t have done it without excellent blocking on the offensive line by Hadyn McCallion and Cooper Bretthauer. Xander Stumler provided excellent blocking as a wide receiver. Asher Ogle and Vincent Gallero lead the way on defense with multiple tackles.

 

  • FC Gold Football Team beat Jennings County at home on Sunday, 19-6. Graham Elrod led in scoring with 2 rushing touchdowns and Max Eichenberger found Noah Elder for a touchdown through the air. Great snaps all game by Brendan Bertl. Ronan Clayton recorded a sack on defense and Alex Redden recovered an onside kick.

 

Here are the tryouts that will occur the week we return from fall break.

8th grade boys ~ 10/18, 10/19, 10/20 from 5:30-7:00pm

7th grade boys ~ 10/18, 10/19 from  7:00-8:30pm

8th grade girls ~ 10/18, 10/19, 10/20 from 5:30-7:00pm

7th grade girls ~ 10/18, 10/19, 10/20 after school until 5:30pm

6th grade girls ~ 10/19, 10/20, (from 7:00 – 8:30 both days) & 10/21 after school until 5:30pm

5th grade girls ~ 10/18, 10/19, 10/20 after school to 5:30pm

5th and 6th grade boys tryout the week of December 15th.

Athletes must have a physical on file to try out.

 

  • Cosmo’s Chicken Food truck will be outside at the football field on Monday, Sept. 27 around 5pm

2021-2022 HHMS Open Gym Basketball Schedule

 

Tryouts for the school teams will not occur until we return from Fall Break.

 

  • No Open Gym tonight  – Boys 5th-6th grade open gym will be available on Tuesday morning from 7am – 8:30am.

  • 5th & 6th Grade Girls Basketball ~ There will also be an open gym for girls basketball on Tuesday for 5th & 6th Grade from 5:30-7:00.  Runs through fall break. Contact Mr. Miller for any questions.

  • 6th Grade Girls Basketball ~ Open Gym will be on Friday after school until 5:30pm until Fall Break. Coach Jenks will lead.

  • ​​7th Grade Boys Basketball Open gym – 7th grade boys: Coach Reed will lead

9/24 (Friday) – 5:30 – 7:00

  • 8th Grade Boys Basketball ~  will have an “Open Gym” from 5:30 – 7:00pm on Thursday until Fall Break. Coach Metz will lead

Clubs (We have a club bulletin board located in the Commons near the Cafe’)

  • Intramurals is for any student who is interested in playing sports before the school day begins.  We play a different sport every week.  Drop off for intramurals is door 28.   If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Fox.

    • 7th and 8th grade is on Thursdays from 7:30 – 8:30 am.

    • 5th and 6th grade is on Fridays from 7:30 – 8:30am.

  • The Chess Club meets every Monday after school until 5pm.  Everyone is welcome to attend, no experience required.  The club will meet in Mrs. Milliner’s room (A102).

  • The Book Club for 5th & 6th grade students will meet on Mondays afterschool until 5:00pm in the library.  See Ms. Durham if you have any questions. (Sept. 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 8, and Dec. 6)

  • Dungeons and Dragons ~ If you play Dungeons and Dragons or would like to learn how to play.  You are welcome to come to the newly formed Dungeons and Dragons club.  We will meet starting the Thursday after fall break until 5:00 in Mrs. Lopp’s room A323.

 

Good luck to any of our Jaguars that perform or play this evening.  Remember that there are three things that YOU can control: your attitude, your actions, and your effort.  Give it your best!  Have a great afternoon.

 

Covid Information:

 

  • If your student is in quarantine, please remind them to get on Google Classroom to work asynchronously so they do not get behind on their classwork.

 

  • If any household members have a pending covid test, please contact our school nurse, Heather Murray at 812.542.8501 or via email: hmurray@nafcs.org You may also email Mrs. Ivey @ wivey@nafcs.org.

 

  • Masks are mandated INSIDE the school building.  Students riding to/from school on a bus must wear a mask due to the federal mandate.  Thank you for your support and cooperation.  We want to keep everyone safe.

 

 

Textbook Rental Fee Invoices~ will go in the mail/email the last week of September with payment being due by Oct 29, 2021.

  • Important Dates:

  • October 26 ~ Picture Retakes (in the library)

    • Parents will be able to order pictures online this year.  You will get a specific email with your student’s picture on it to place orders.  (5th Grade – Use 1st Period Teacher; 6th Grade – Use your 2nd Period Teacher; 7th/8th – Use your 7th Period Teacher)

  • October 27 – Report Cards will go home with students

  • October 28 – No School for students; 5th & 6th Grade Parent/Teacher Conferences; 7th & 8th Grade Teachers will have Professional
