Highland Hills Middle School Announcement for Monday, August 28, 2023

Thanks to our students for complying with the school dress code this year. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Remember, you can find the dress code policy on page 8 of your student handbook

The HHMS Clothes Closet is in need of

  • Boys and girls underwear in a variety of youth and adult sizes.
  • Leggings, sweatpants, and athletic shorts in neutral colors and all sizes.
  • Boys and girls white or black socks in a variety of sizes (non-fuzzy).

Donations can be turned in to grade level counselors in the morning or at lunch.

  • NWEA Testing for Grades 5-8th on Monday, August 28 (ELA) & Tuesday, August 29 (Math).  Students will test during the 2-hour block from 9am – 11:00am and then we will run a 2-hour delay schedule. Please have them come to school with a fully charged Chromebook.  Any absent students will need to make-up the test when they return.   Here is the lunch schedule for the two days:
Lunch Schedule 30 minutes
11:30 – 12:00 6th Gr Lunch
12:09 – 12:39 7th Gr Lunch
12:51 – 1:21 8th Gr Lunch
1:30 – 2:00 5th Gr Lunch

Here is the QR code for parents to be able to make appointments through the health department for immunizations.

If a parent had an account last year, that same account should be active but they may have to click on the forgot password link if they cannot recall.  We have MANY parents that are using the same email address on both mom and dad’s contact record. Since the email address is the username for the home portal, duplicates are not allowed, thus only one parent has access. We also noticed that parents may have updated their email account and this could have also affected their previous home portal account.

The quick reference guide goes through the instructions on how to login to the portal.  If you have any questions, please call HHMS to speak with Mrs. Pam Nevin (pnevin@nafcs.org) or email  powerschool@nafcs.org and we will assist.  Thank you

Tutoring Opportunity:
Help your students start the school year strong by encouraging them to take advantage of Indiana Learns tutoring grants. Qualifying students can access $1,000 in grant funds to be spent with approved Learning Partners (tutoring providers). Families can enroll eligible students by completing the enrollment worksheet and emailing it to info@indianalearns.org

Schools are encouraged to apply to become a Learning Partner. As a Learning Partner, your school can leverage Indiana Learns funds to pay teachers to provide support to students during the school day. Tutoring can take place during the school day (outside of tier 1 math and reading instruction). The Indiana Learns team will provide the support needed to establish the program in the Indiana Learns portal and any additional support needed. Learning Partner requirements can be found here and the application can be found here

Youth and Government is an Indiana program through the YMCA for students to learn about how the government works, learn to write bills, debate them, and “pass” them into law.  If your student loves to debate, is interested in law or politics, this might be a great fit for them.  Students that are interested in this opportunity are invited to join our local delegation.  Fall meetings will take place at the Floyd County YMCA (33 State St, New Albany, IN 47150).  Families do not have to be YMCA members to participate.  Please email Amanda McCoy, amccoy@nafcs.org, if you have any questions.
