Safety Concern – Students should NOT be walking through the buses in the afternoon on their own.  If parents have parked in the front parking lot, they need to use the cross walks and walk up to meet your student.  Please use the tennis court/football side and NOT the staff parking side.  Thank you for keeping everyone safe!

 

 

  • Submissions for the 2021 Veterans Day Speech Contest are due to your social studies teacher by TODAY. The Veterans Day program will be virtual this year and will be shown in social studies classrooms on Thurs, Nov 11.

  • The holiday season is quickly approaching.  Highland Hills recognizes during this unprecedented time, some of our families may be in need of assistance for the holidays. We are offering a limited number of food boxes filled with everyday food items to help supplement over winter break. If you are interested in a food box or have other needs for the holidays, and have not applied elsewhere, please indicate on the form provided. We just received the following information for applying for the Salvation Army Christmas help.  Please respond by Oct. 31 if interested:

 

 

  • Report Cards went home on Wednesday with students

 

 

  • Student Ambassadors for HHMS ~ If you are interested in being a Highland Hills Student Ambassador for the current 5th – 7th Grade, you may pick up information and an application in the rack in the front lobby or from your grade level counselor. Applications are due no later than Wednesday, November 17. Please see your grade level counselor if you have questions.

 

 

 

  • The United States Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” Christmas Campaign is in full swing.  Please donate a new, unwrapped toy and place it in the white box in front of Officer Spurgeon’s office in the Common’s.

 

  • Textbook Rental Fee Invoices~ were mailed out before Fall Break with payment being due by Oct 29, 2021.  Contact Sonya N. Wright if you have any questions at: snwright@nafcs.org.

  • 5th Grade Girls Basketball parent meeting, Friday, Oct. 29th from 5:30-6:00pm. (Cafe’)

 

  • 5th and 6th Grade Boys Basketball  tryouts will be the week of December 15th.

5th Grade Boys Basketball – 7:00 – 8:30am on Tuesdays (Miller)

6th Grade Boys Basketball – 5:30 – 7:00pm on 11/4, 11/11, 11/15, 11/22

    4:00 – 5:30pm on 11/30 and 12/7 (Noble)

Clubs (We have a club bulletin board located in the Commons near the Cafe’)

  • Student Council ~ Are you interested in giving back to the HHMS community?  If so, the Student Council may be for you!  Applications are available in the wooden rack in the front office.  Applications need to be filed out fully and returned by the faculty/staff mailboxes in the office by November 19th.

  • The Floyd Central Emerald Guard ~ If you are interested in Color Guard but didn’t get a flyer today, they are available in the magazine rack in between the double doors.  We will be accepting interest from grades 4th – 8th grade.  To sign up for the 2021 – 2022 Cast of Floyd Central Emerald Guard Interest meeting visit https://airtable.com/shrZDepMjnk0kSqJ6 for auxiliary interest information.

  • Fishing Club – The NAFCS Fishing Club will meet:  in E101 at FCHS from 6:00 – 7:00pm on November 15, & December 13

  • Intramurals is for any student who is interested in playing sports before the school day begins.  We play a different sport every week.  Drop off for intramurals is door 28.   If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Fox.

    • 7th and 8th grade is on Thursdays from 7:30 – 8:30 am.

    • 5th and 6th grade is on Fridays from 7:30 – 8:30am.

  • The Chess Club meets every Monday after school until 5pm.  Everyone is welcome to attend, no experience required.  The club will meet in Mrs. Milliner’s room (A102).

  • The Book Club for 5th & 6th grade students will meet on Mondays afterschool until 5:00pm in the library.  See Ms. Durham if you have any questions. (Monday, Nov. 8, and Dec. 6)

  • Dungeons and Dragons ~ If you play Dungeons and Dragons or would like to learn how to play.  You are welcome to come to the newly formed Dungeons and Dragons club.  We will meet on Thursdays until 5:00 in the cafe’. (Note: change of location)

  • Attention!!  5th through 8th graders….Highland Hills Theatre Group, the Shadow Players, is going to go UNDER THE SEA this school year!!!!  OUR SPRING MUSICAL IS….Disney’s LITTLE MERMAID, JR!  Come be PART OF THEIR WORLD as we join the adventures of Ariel, Prince Eric, Sebastian, Flounder, the evil Ursula and many more!

Our county has moved to the “Yellow” with Covid restrictions.

What does this mean?

  • Any person unvaccinated is strongly recommended to wear a mask.

  • Unvaccinated students will need to be quarantined (masked or not) if close contact and within 6 feet of a positive case when close contact tracing.

  • Vaccinated students will not be quarantined if in close contact.

  • There is still a Federal Transportation Mask Mandate in effect for buses.

  • There will be an “all call” going out today at 4pm from Mr. Briscoe.

  • If your student is in quarantine, please remind them to get on Google Classroom to work asynchronously so they do not get behind on their classwork.
